Mother’s Day is May 13. How about giving original art to this Very Important Person? Everything in the Gift Gallery will be 20 percent off, so come browse our selection of hand-made jewelry, prints, photos, paintings, pottery and more.
 
Also in the shop: We still have copies of “Battle Portraits: Wounded Lions Wounded Lambs,” the book of the acclaimed paintings by Laura BenAmots. The books are $24.95, and 10 percent of proceeds go to art therapy for returning military and veterans in treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and/or traumatic brain injuries. >May 18, 8 p.m. The Poet Spiel will present a free performance, “Also Known As . . .” which will include explicit language and adult content. No one under 18 will be admitted, even with parental permission. Seating is limited, so seats should be reserved by calling 685-1861. Reservations must be claimed by 7:50 that evening; if you’re unable to attend, please notify the BAC at the above number. Spiel’s books, cards and CDs are available in the BAC Gift Gallery.

>May 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Manitou Springs Garden Club Plant Sale and Home Show. Stop by the BAC’s parking lot to find plants and talk with the vendors and landscapers. Information: 719-685-1862.

>Jonathan Talbot’s collage workshop and free program have been postponed indefinitely; we hope to reschedule them in 2013.


>If you were among the people who had your photo taken in costume during our Boot Scootin’ Ball, the photographer is running behind and will email your photos as soon as she can. Rumor has it, they’re great!

>Congratulations to Sean O’Meallie and the Chair Project team; Westword http://www.westword.com/ bestof/2012/award/best- temporary-outdoor- installation-2118166/ has named the October 2011 installation, which the BAC co-sponsored, its Best Temporary Art Installation.

STUDIO SPACE AVAILABLE

The Business of Art Center has studio space available at the best rates in Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. 

The studios focus on: woodworking and welding (tools and equipment available), mixed media, printmaking, painting, and ceramics (two electric, one gas and one raku kiln available). Coming soon: glass studio and a darkroom.
